Marjorie's ramblings

Cawfields Quarry

Today was the recce for the 10 mile walk called "The Highs and Lows of the Tyne Valley". I'm leading this one on the Monday of the walking festival. The 4 Ms set out from Haltwhistle at 1000. The route goes parallel to the river and the railway to Melkridge. Parts of that were a bit boring, but there was much better to come. After a long climb up we reached Winshields Crags, the highest point on Hadrian's Wall, and then we walked west to Aesica Fort.

There is a lot to see on the walk, and I need to do some homework so that I can answer any questions I may be asked on the day.

Here is an image of Cawfields Quarry, a very well know spot on the Hadrian's Wall Trail. Rather grey when we reached here, but there was no rain all day - wonderful.
