Glass flowers!!!!

I'd heard of this amazing collection of glass flowers, being exhibited at the Harvard Museum of Natural History in Boston, so when we knew we would be in Boston, we made sure it was on our schedule!!! It was totally mind blowing!
This isn't the most amazing shot, it was difficult to get a good shot with such low light and you are not allowed to use flash, so this is one the best I got!

In the late 1800's, around 1886 onwards, the Blaschka family...mainly the father (Leopold and the son Rudolf) created over 4,400 models of a huge variety of flowers, from glass!!! yes, glass....they used flame, they blew the glass and they cultivated these amazing pieces of art. They are so fantastic, and the detail is astonishing....if you'd like a bit of history please check out this!
There was case after case of the most astonishing flowers, and they had also made studies of the very tiny parts of the flowers, sometimes magnifying them to 30 times their size!!! For me, being a crafts person, it was so awesome to witness another persons creativity and passion for their craft and art! Truly amazing!
