Ruined wharf

Jenny Brown's Point, Silverdale.

A couple of weeks ago I posted a picture of the copper smelter chimney at Jenny Brown's. I said then that there are ruined wharves and bridges from a time when the Kent channel through Morecambe Bay was navigable to Jenny Brown's.

The Kent channel is very mobile and a shift of the channel westwards into Morecambe Bay left the small port high and dry.

In the photo, beyond the wharf is a rocky skear. Across the bay is Humphrey Head, and beyond that the Furness peninsula receding into the distance.

There is a view of the rocky skear here.

There is a completely alternative blip seen on my walk along the coast this afternoon, see link.
