Still Life

Imagine you lived in a country where you could saunter out into your garden and pick three oranges with leaves, off your own tree. Imagine........ how gratifying would that be! Instead, here, we have to be content with buying them over a counter.

Leaves are not something you necessarily associate with oranges or for that matter lemons. They usually come via a fruit shop bare naked with not a vestige of leaf to hide their embarrassment.
But these little beauties came home with his Lordship ( now returned to full robust health after his mancold scare) yesterday, not from our own orangery unfortunately but from the local fruitmarket just up the road.

They are so lovely to look at in their green finery, that they may well languish on the plate too long and then go bad, a habit I am accused of- that is, saving things until they are no longer edible and then his Lordship having to put them in the bin.
I do admit to a parsimonious streak, inherited I know from certain of my frugal forebears.

Today it was a hive of inertia in the Dower House. We ventured out at one point to try and locate an old chimney pot for use in conjunction with plants on the patio, but the Leith Salvage yard, which we eventually located since its move from where it had been, was closed. And so it was back home to read more newsprint and watch the activity outside the windows. I feel quite exhausted watching all the running about taking place.

Today is my Cairo daughter-in-law's birthday (another Scorpio girl! )
So have a very Happy Birthday Larissa!
