The Edge of the Wold

Morning train

I have posted lots of blips with the Arnside viaduct over the Kent estuary, but not one with a train on it. This is one of the most scenic train lines in England with its estuarine viaducts and views of the bay. This is the 0805 train pulling into Arnside station en route to Manchester Airport. There are lapwings lined along the edge of the mudflats.

The sharpest frost of the season this morning. The light in these clear, cold early mornings has an other-worldly quality on the estuary. As I was getting back into the car to head for work, one of the trains taking nuclear waste to Sellafield crossed the viaduct, but I'd put the camera away by then.

There is an alternative blip here, showing the frost covered grasses in a field outside Milnthorpe.

Afternote: I was guilty of not checking the birds, at first I said they were redshanks (they usually are), but going back to the original picture they are mainly lapwings, with a few oystercatchers and black-headed gulls.
