Getting the shakes

I make no apologies for posting another view of the demolition work going on at the offices where I work.

The truth is, the most interesting thing that happened today was the building shuddering at regular intervals after presumably being struck by these machines.

The first time it happened the office went silent and there were a fair few people - me included - who were more than a little apprehensive about the damage that might have been caused.

Last week there was an evacuation of the building when the press hall roof collapsed completely as the demolition work went slightly awry. Fire engines turned up and the staff had to be given a structural engineer's report to restore confidence in the integrity of the building.

So, borrowing the words of one of my colleagues, I don't exactly trust these guys. They seem to be in a huge hurry - either because they are on a time-related bonus or because they want to clock off for Christmas.

It will be nice for the rest of us to get to Christmas in one piece.

Posting this shot also lets you see the scale of the operation after yesterday's night time view.

I also rather like the juxtaposition of this modern wasteland with buildings in the background that have stood there, in some cases, possibly for centuries. Our building was put up in 1974. Hmmm.
