Plas y Brenin

Robin, I and a close friend and fellow adventurer Chris spent the weekend at the National Mountain Centre at Plas y Brenin in Snowdonia, North Wales. We attended an excellent course on winter mountain skills learning to use crampons, ice axe and navigate in difficult conditions.

The weather on Friday when we travelled up was horrible and it rained all night but luckily things cleared into very patchy sunshine and heavy showers during the day. Unfortunately there wasn't much snow about, the past few years have reliably had snow in January and February but this it all got used by Christmas. However we were still able to practice many of the skills we came to learn and still get off the hills in time to watch England beat France in the weekend's big rugby match.

This view was taken whilst we ate our picnic lunch across the lake next to Plas y Brenin looking west towards the Snowdon range.
