Hello!

I am a veterinarian currently working in small animal research (gastroenterology). In order to counterbalance my scientific job, I try to take as many pictures of "pretty things" as I can :-)

Since a few people have asked about or commented on my camera/lenses, this is what I am using: Nikon D50 DSLR with two lenses.

The lens I use for the close-ups is an AF-S Nikkor 18-55 mm lens (ED), f 1.3-5.6.

The tele lens is a Nikon AF Nikkor 70-300 mm lens, f 1.4-5.6. In this case, I got the cheap version - I am very happy with it, though. It really delivers great pictures. If they are not great, it is usually my own fault.

I also use an external flash unit (SB-600) for all indoor photography. This is probably the best investment I have made regarding my photo gear. I don't know how I ever took pictures without it...love it!

Nora

P.S.: I just recently acquired a Nikon Coolpix S51 in addition to the DSLR. Its main purpose is to be "with me", so that I have more chances to take pictures whenever the D50 is too bulky. But I admit that it takes some getting used to, if you are used to using an SLR...I don't like it nearly as much. But better this than nothing :-)
