Planning a strategy

The chickadees and titmice fly in, grab a peanut chip and take off, but the downy woodpecker is more oblique in his approach. He lands on the end of the bench, peers over at the peanuts and takes a while to plan his approach. However, he gets there in the end and captures his treat. It looks as if he is playing peekaboo, but he is just carefully making a strategic plan so he can get the peanut and make a quick retreat to enjoy it at a safe distance.

PS Take a look at that sharp claw. Large is good.
