Hosta leaves

We have seven or eight varieties of Hosta growing round one side of the pond and making a solid backdrop of greens, blues, yellows and whites that reflect in the water. This one, I think, is Hosta Lakeside Symphony, with massive thick plain coloured leathery leaves.

The slugs love them. My attempts to be organic and make up a concentrated garlic soup that was then diluted and sprayed over the Hostas with the watering can may have been very environmentally friendly, but it didn't keep the slugs away, so this is one part of the garden that gets straightforward chemical slug pellets. A determined attack by slugs can turn favourite Hostas into something resembling lace overnight, and that's not what I want.
