Malaysia travels day 6 - signs

Another beautiful day in George Town.  And a day of interesting signs.  In the Botanic Gardens (an hour by a very circuitous route on the no 10 bus and hardly any flowers!) there were 2 - one asking you not to use the bridge for your stretching exercises and another warning of aggressive monkeys (I didn't see any).  This was outside the Khoo Kongsi, the Jewel of Penang.  A kongsi is a Chinese clan house, part temple, part meeting place, part genealogical record.  this is the most elaborate in Penang but why you'd WANT to put the granite balls in the lions' mouths is a mystery to me!

I did a lot of walking round George Town this afternoon, through Chinatown and Little India and back to the old colonial buildings by the promenade. At night I discovered the Red Garden food court and another interesting desert.  Yesterday it was ais kacang (also known as ABC) at Bukit Penang, an interesting mixture of red beans, shaved ice, some ice cream, palm sugar, cendol (sort of jelly stuff) and sweetcorn.  Ugh.  Today it was deep fried ice cream - well you've got to give everything a try.
