Quirky street names 1

My fellow blippers say it's the first day of spring in the Antipodes and are posting photos of daffodils and spring flowers. I guess that means it's the first day of autumn here. Certainly there are fewer flowers and more yellow and gold leaves around. I did take a couple of photos of them but preferred this.

'Esdaile Bank' isn't, but the name commemorates what it was. Firstly, Esdaile School, the Ministers' Daughters College, then when that closed in 1969, the training centre for the Royal Bank of Scotland - so 'Esdaile Bank'! Now it's flats with houses in the grounds. My parents live on the former Esdaile School playing fields - now a 'Manor'.

My favourite quirky street name didn't last long though. It was in Newmachar, Aberdeenshire, where one of the local families was the Wildgoose family. This led to a street in a new development being named 'Wildgoose Chase'. Great name, certainly made ME smile as I drove past. But the residents must have objected as very quickly it became 'Wildgoose Drive' - bit more prosaic.

Spent quite a bit of time today on neighbour issues including a trip to Leith with E. Good eatery there with great coffee - you probably know it if you live there, the Compass Bar. We got free pastries.
