The excitable gelding

You've seen this fella before. Today he was highly excitable. This is one of his brief quieter moments but you can see the sweat on him.

My day started with a longish run. Longer than intended as somehow I got confused on the flat, straight mid-Canterbury roads (well, more the intersection with an unexpected curve). The railway track to the west coast, leaping a water race and negotiating a strip of no-man's land later and I was on the metal road I was looking for.

We bought and planted 5 weeping willow saplings. One went completed planting around the hunter's back duck pond, the other four to the neighbours new duck pond.

If it isn't drained swamp in Canterbury it's gravel. We planted the willows and 6 tussocks missed earlier in old river gravel soil. What a job! especially when the heavy earth moving equipment that made the pond compacted as well.

The new Ashley boots now have dirt on them ;-)
