A time for everything

High school Graduate!

Sunday
Strictly speaking, at this point she was not yet a graduate as this was taken in our yard before the ceremony, but they have to turn their robes in as soon as the ceremony is finished, so you can't get a picture of them in their robes with their diplomas.
I was up early clearing the kitchen and finishing the frosting on Laura's cake - I had done the base coat last night, but had to do the decoration this morning. We had a good brunch, with a new recipe from the church cookbook, then Jen and I did a bit more work on the salads, we took pictures, and set off for graduation, which was held at Zavier University's Cintas Center arena at 1pm. We were meeting our friends John and Ellen there, as well as Philip, who unfortunately had been working this morning. He arrived just in time - as they were starting to process in - this takes a while with a graduating class of 500! The ceremony was great, with two choral pieces, one guy playing guitar and singing one of his own compositions, and short speeches by the class president and another student, the school principal and district superintendant, then the long roll call of students, with short interruptions while faculty members would try and round up beach balls which had managed to be smuggled in and students were throwing around! I know the kids are just having fun, but I think its disrespectful to the students who are having their names read and receiving their diplomas, so I was glad that they would stop the names until the ball was retrieved and then resume. Afterwards we managed to get a few more photos with a few of Lauras friends - but it was a mass of people - 500 students and each one is allowed twelve tickets and can ask for more!

Later in the afternoon we had some friends round for a cookout to help us celebrate. Laura graced us with her presence for a few hours before going off to two more in her long string of graduation parties!

All in all a very happy day! Hope everyone else had a good weekend.

I have back-blipped Friday and Saturday
