Dublin's Last Supper

This is part of Dublin's Last Supper, a large-scale public mural (photo work screen-printed onto vitreous enamel) by artist John Byrne which is the centre piece of what's variously known as 'Little Italy' and 'The Italian Quarter', on the north side of the river Liffey, across from the Millennium pedestrian bridge. I had a meeting in town this afternoon and had a half hour to while away beforehand. I hadn't intended blipping this, but when I found myself in front of it I couldn't resist. More info about the piece is here, but the short version is that it's a modern take on Leonardo's masterpiece, with a cast of real-life Dublin residents standing in for the apostles and a couple of Dublin landmarks forming the background skyline. It's a terrible shame that graffiti vandals couldn't leave their hands off even this, and just couldn't resist the temptation to deface it. I'd cheerfully chop off the hands of whoever was responsible for Jesus's thought bubble (and I hope someone will clean it off as quickly as possible).

Also: (a) another shot showing the whole thing in context, and (b) a larger version of this to make up for Blip's size restriction.

Big day tomorrow. We go to the polls to vote on a constitutional amendment which would allow the Government to ratify the Lisbon Treaty. Things are too close to call even now, so it'll be fascinating to see what the result turns out to be.
