Swimming Against The Tide

Fish Barn

Today we went to Devon to visit the in-laws (my in-laws, that is)!

Since MiL wasn't very well, and FiL was waiting for the doctor to call back, the Wonderspouse and I went to collect fish and chips for lunch. Rather impressively, the chip shop has this rather lovely eating area they call "the barn", where chips can be eaten! It's empty because we were there just before they closed at the end of lunchtime!

Also, rather impressively, the chip shop had a selection of not-even-very-old copies of New Scientist as reading material available! I read about polar ice caps melting and geology, and some stuff about nuclear physics.

Then we went back to MiL & FiL's, where three of us had lunch, and MiL rested. She's struggling to eat at the moment - not only does the chemo make her feel really poorly, but the radio has also burnt her throat. She was feeling so rough that the doctor came out in the afternoon and said if she got any worse she should be admitted to hospital.

However, they both seemed very pleased to see us, and enjoyed hearing all about what we'd been up to. When they were obviously tired, and just before it started to get dark, we set off back up the M5, and headed home to the hungry feline and rodent family back at ours!

When we called to say we were home, FiL informed us that the Wonderspouse's aunt (FiL's sister) from whom we rehomed Smudge, had had a fall and was in hospital. She'd fallen at 7 on Wednesday night and not been found until 10 the next morning by her carer!

Never rains but it pours!

The Wonderspouse made delicious minced beef pies with the pie maker, then we went to bed. Tired from travel, worrying, and caring, but pleased that MiL & FiL had enjoyed their time with us.
