Finally Gorrit.

Reckon this Elf might be a tad early for christmas?
I spotted it a couple of days ago and finally got it and the camera together today.
Almost showroom condition.
Or in our local vernacular ''Shining like a S**t-house door on a frosty morning.''

After a spot of checking I discovered ...
''In 1962 the Elf was basic £475 to which must be added purchase tax of £218 18s 11d making a total of £693 18s 11d. =£693.94-95P
Incidentally, at that time the HMV radio (including tax) was over £37, whitewall tyres £6 15s and seat belts an option at £5.
A price comparison (including tax) for 1965 reveals:
Riley Elf?????.. £693
Wolseley Hornet?? £579
Mini???????.. £470
''

To put that lot in perspective in 1960 the average wage was £4,007.12
YIKES! In 1970 I became a Lab Tech for the princely sum of about 1,200 quid.

Strangely, nobody seems overly keen to give an up to date price, but having read, during the search that an Elf was a ''Mini Cooper'' in disguise I guess about this much...

'The cheapest Cooper S is the 1071, followed by 970cc editions; the 1275 is the one everyone wants and a really superb one of those can fetch as much as £15,000. Restoration projects start at £1800, or £3000 for an S - but check the car is genuine before buying!'

The, current, owner informs me that his predecessor spent about 15X1961 Elfs in order to renovate it.
