The time now is clunk o'clock

Today's blip is a no-brainer. Our village clock has had a problem since Sunday morning. Instead of its clear, twice-repeated chimes, it started making dull clunks. Made telling the time a little more difficult, but not impossible for us, since our bedroom shares a wall with the bell tower, and we hear everything.

We are not happy without our bells, so we reported it to the mairie and today a man came to repair it. Confession: I don't do ladders except in emergencies, so I sent my husband up the ladder with the camera. This photo was taken from the square outside, though. The clock is now chiming again -- hurray! And the repairman fixed it in the nick of time for midday's 24 chimes.

Specially for tickytocky, I posted some more photos on Flickr , including one of the old mechanism (no longer used, it's electric and radio-controlled now).

In some villages they take advantage of electrical control to switch the chimes off between 10 pm and 7 am, because people complain about the noise. Shame on them! I am happy that our clock chimes 24 hours a day, rain or shine.
