Cactus Nursery

Seen along a major thoroughfare is this Cactus Nursery. It is on a plot of desert ground, perhaps a couple of hundred acres, that has been vacant. Now it appears that the ground is being cleared in preparation for construction of a development.

My speculation is that the Cacti have been transplanted from their original locations to this Nursery where they have been heeled in and propped up. After the Infrastructure and roads have been built they will be strategicly replanted as part of an attractive landscape design

Not shown but behind these Sagauros are many Mesquite Trees that have been boxed and are being held to be part of the plan.

Sagauros are slow growing and many of these plants are well over 100 years ofd. They are valuable and worth saving. The going retail price for Saguaros is $100 per foot. The props are six to eight feet above ground making it easy to estimate heights. I calculate that this little stand of plants is worth well over $50,000.
