Everyday I Write The Book

Blossom on a grey day

Took the Aged P to Greenwich Park again today but it was grey and cold and drizzly. The park looked lovely 'though, with the preparation for the equestrian events of the forthcoming games very much in evidence - including the enormous HMS Ocean laid by in the crook of the Thames at Deptford, taking part in Olympics security exercises.

I love Greenwich Park. It has so many wonderful little avenues like this, so much beautiful architecture, so many interesting winding and dipping paths.

Conversation with the Aged P on the way home as follows:

"Was it you  that drove me down Shooters Hill at a hundred miles an hour?"
"No mum it was Keith".
"I must have been mad to agree to that".
"Actually I don't think he asked your permission".

This event took place circa 1970 - if you don't know it, Shooters Hill is a massive, long steep hill dropping down into Blackheath that gets a mention in the first pages of A Tale of Two Cities. It is easy to do the ton late at night when the roads are quiet, although a hundred miles an hour was faster in those days .... What made it remarkable was that it involved passing a police station, although I'm sure they knew nothing about it.

The prolonged miserable weather is driving me nuts and is taking the whole nation into a state of morbid apathy. Some sunshine ... please ... please .....
