View to Loch Lomond from Duncryne Hill

Duncryne Hill is also known as the Kilmaronock Dumpling as it is a small hill only 142 metres high. However, it affords wonderful views north over the parish of Kilmaronock to the southern shores of Loch Lomond with its little islands and majestic peaks. It is on private land but with an access path for walking to the summit. Unfortunately, it is only partly surfaced and too many boots had churned the grass into a mud bath in certain sections today. I'm glad I had my walking pole - especially on the descent.

This was the legendary Tom Weir's special stomping ground as he lived in the nearby village of Gartocharn and climbed it almost every day. As he lived an active life into his 90s that says something about the regenerative power of keeping fit. Only yesterday, a sculpture was unveiled in his memory on the foreshore of Balmaha on Loch Lomond as he would have been 100 if he were alive. Today's blip is my tribute to a tremendous character who spread the word about the beauty of Scotland's countryside through words and pictures.
