Nicky and her Nikon

Good news at last!

Adam had his driving test booked for the Easter school holidays, but by consequently checking the DSA website he found a slot for today that had just come free. So this morning he went off with Gavin to take his driving test - he has hardly driven at all since before Christmas so I was not expecting a positive outcome, but he passed (and with only 3 minors!).

When he got home after the test there was an envelope lying on the kitchen table for him...from Cambridge University. I could not bear to open it in his absence, and so like ripping off a plaster he quickly opened it to find that he has been made an offer from Cambridge to read Natural Sciences. NatSci (pronounced nat-skee) as it is commonly known, is one of the toughest science courses in the world and their standard offer is that the candidate has to achieve A*A*AA but because he is taking five A levels they have cranked it up to A*A*A*AA (makes sense, doesn't it?) and specified that the A* cannot be in Maths (too easy!) but has to be in Further Maths, Biology and Chemistry - annoying when he already has an A* in Maths which they will not consider! A tough order but his teachers think he is up to it...at least he has an easy offer from Imperial College as a back up. Only time will tell what will happen, but at least he has been made an offer which is really good news.

So a double celebration for Adam today. Except we did not celebrate as we rushed off to watch Thomas' first hockey match of the season. He is delighted to have been selected for the A team and he played well in defence - they won 4-1 against a tough opponent, so a good result today.
