Only In The Distance

He perched 40 ft/13m away from me up in the ocotillo a few times during the hour I sat outside  but never got close to my backyard.

Mid-afternoon is the worst time to stalk hummingbirds.  If you want to get them, you need to get out very early in the morning (when they are getting 25% of their nectar for the day) or in the evening, when they are 'bulking up' for the night.

Three o'clock...forget it.  You end up sitting out there taking pictures of the palm tree against the sky, three different cactus (out of focus), a yellow bird far away...also out of focus because you're using big Bertha by hand (dumb) and the feeder with a bee hovering around it.  All as potential blips because now you are getting desperate.

It's a pleasant surprise that I've gotten Zippy in focus in the ocotillo.  It's the first time, ever.  He's a mere blip of a blip today.
