MonoMonday - Spirit

Thanks to JoanneinOz for taking up the MonoMonday challenge for February.

In Australia, between roughly 1909 and the very late 1960's there was a government policy of taking Aboriginal children away from their families, and bringing them up in a so-called white society.  There is a huge Wikipedia article, if you are interested, because it really is beyond the scope of this journal to delve deeply into the subject.

In the suburb of Eden Hills there was one home for Aboriginal children called Colebrook Home.  It opened under the care of two much loved nuns, but when they left it was run by a series of uncaring and cruel superintendents.

To cut a long story shot, the home was closed in 1973 and eventually razed. The land has been declared as the Colebrook Reconciliation Park, as a memorial to the children and their families.

There are two sculptures in the park, both by Silvio Apponyi.  This one is called "Grieving Mother", and the other - in the Rower's Blip - is called "Fountain of Tears".

This mother is calling out to the spirit of her child saying "where has my baby gone".

As you drive past the park, you catch a glimpse of her, and you would swear she is a real person.  It's one of the most power sculptures I have ever seen.

Thank you all so very much for your gorgeous comments, hearts and stars for my last couple of blips.  The Monarch journey is just about over for this year, but I do count myself blessed being able to see first hand every single stage of the journey.  My poor little plants didn't have the chance to flower and set seed, so I will have to get some more seeds from another source.
