After Chamaeleo

We took the train to Cascais today, but I was uninspired by all of the photos I took there. So this is the Mercado da Ribeira, described yesterday, where we stopped for an ice cream when we got back to Lisbon. I decided I'd have a go at Chamaeleo's bleach bypass effect.

Cascais is a pretty enough resort, quiet at this time of year but no doubt packed in summer as it's only about half an hour by train from central Lisbon. After a stroll along the seafront we headed uphill away from the tourist traps and S  peered in at the door of a tiny "snack bar" called the Perola. It was full of men in workers' overalls eating lunch. But one of the five tables was free, so we joined them. An excellent choice! We had cabbage soup followed by a whole grilled bream each with potatoes, green salad, half a litre of white wine, and coffee, for a total of 23 euros. All the men seemed very satisfied with their meals too -- they were all eating large pork steaks with chips and a fried egg on top, to set them up for the afternoon's work no doubt.

In the evening we went out with G & G again, this time to an excellent local Indian restaurant. A lovely evening's chat, ending with a glass of sangria in a bar run by young girls dressed up as pink fluffy pigs, bopping to 70s disco music (well, it is carnaval week in Lisbon). At midnight, like Cinderellas they switched off music and lights and chased everyone out as they didn't have a licence beyond then.
