Through the Trees; Kahikatea Walk, Peel Forest

An early start for me today (OK, so only comparatively early!) with the alarm going off at 6.30am, ready for me to go exploring the area in the golden hours of morning.

First stop was the Kahikatea Walk, a lovely loop track that descends from Te Wanahu Flat down towards the Peel Forest Campground. As you would imagine with the name, the main feature is the groves of Kahikatea that line the valley floor. In boggy areas, DOC have kindly provided elevated boardwalks to prevent soggy feet, but in other parts of the walk terra firma is a little drier.

This spot is about halfway through the walk, these two Kahikatea forming an archway over the path as it winds its way through the forest.

Today's been one of those days where I wish you could post one than one photo, such was the gorgeous scenery confronting me both on the walk and on my later jaunt with more stunning views of Little Mount Peel and deer.
