Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

Jumped into the world full force today. :-)   Very cold start again.   Qi Cong and Tai chi class (one makeup).  Then this afternoon I went with H to his UW Oceanography class as this might be my last chance.   A world renowned experienced professor who is a down to earth woman - has been on many many little vehicle trips to the bottom of the ocean floor observing life at the black vents.   Part of the 2 hour lecture today was James Cameron’s movie “Aliens of the Deep” which altho it has a corny ending, has phenomenal footage of real creatures never before seen.  No light down there.  No photosynthesis.  The UW researchers have almost decided that life can happen at 150 degrees F.  (previously it was thought to be 122).  One cool part of this research is that the technology is being  being transferred to outer space - with a vehicle hopefully aimed at the moon Europa on Jupiter that can dive thru ice into the ocean floor to check on life there.   Pretty dammed exciting, I say.!

That’s about it for this quickie as the day’s not over yet….some (homemade!) soup warming up and then we have our tickets for the opera - Handel’s Semele.  I hope H can make it through….I’m up for it!!!

Oh the blip: is right outside the UW /astro/physics lecture hall  (we can take classes as Access students - over 60yo - for a pittance.) —with students enjoying the afternoon sunny temperature on this “Mad Campus” 2014 artwork Wave Sine by  W Scott Trimble.… (don’t you like how the bike rack echoes it?)
