A view from Jeanneb

Change of View.

We have changed our sea view in Port de Pollensa to a courtyard view in the old narrow streets of Palma.

It was very windy again last night and we had some rain this morning, but it was fine enough for us to climb the 365 steps to the Eglisia del Calvari in the old town of Pollensa, a few miles inland from the port. We stopped off here before heading south.

On a previous visit we were here on Good Friday and witnessed the amazing parade from the Clavary to the church in the town square. The statue of Christ is taken from the cross in the churc and carried by men all dressed in white with strange white hoods over their heads. Solemn music is chanted and a steady drum beat played. In contrast, in the same square, on Easter Sunday morning a statue of the risen Christ is carried through the streets and bustling flower market with great fanfare. We saw this too and were quite alarmed when shot guns were fired from balconies around the square above our heads!

Thankfully it was fine when we reached Palma as we had to return the car and negotiate our way though the central streets to our hotel. We knew we had gone wrong somewhere and had to ask directions but the bonus was seeing this lovely Guadi esque building we might otherwise have missed. A short walk back from where we had come and there was our hotel on an incredibly narrow street. This is the entrance showing the gate through to the inner courtyard providing our new view.

Completed the day with stroll along the Passieg del Born (posh shops!) to the Cathedral and seafront and then a couple of drinks and some Tapas. Will head back down there again later no doubt.
