Canada House

A Manchester morning.

This is Canada House on Chepstow St reflected in a modern building nearby. Canada House is very early 20th century, originally built as a packing warehouse.. A warehouse then was built as an art nouveau pallazzo, a bit Charles Rennie Macintosh, and located close to the canal network. A warehouse now is a crinkly tin shed of enormous size, built near a motorway junction.

One of the things about blip is that I find myself looking at things rather more closely. I took shots of all the sides of Canada House - I had not really looked carefully at the back, which is very different, but equally interesting. But in the end I liked the reflection, and this chap who refused to move out of the way.

Appropriately English Heritage have their NW HQ here (there are plenty of other occupants, including a Ballantyne's Health Club and Spa on one corner). Next week EH splits into two - an organisation called English Heritage which looks after castles and hill forts, and an organisation called Historic England which deals with the regulatory stuff. No fanfares, we're entering pre-election purdah.
