Poppy Park

Australia remembers its fallen on two days each year. One is the international Remembrance Day, observed on November 11 and the other is Australasia's own Anzac Day which is set down for April 25. This year is the 100th Anzac day, marking the landing of Australian and New Zealand troops at Gallipoli (back in 1915) and the effective commencement of World War One for both our countries.

One of the many ways in which the supreme sacrifice of our fallen troops is being honoured is with Poppy Park in Penrith where 102,000 individually named artificial red poppies have been placed, signifying the total number of Australian servicemen killed in all wars. Beckett was the first blipper (that I know of) to think of photographing this place and he has explained the project particularly well.

Wide Angle Wednesday: Seeing the Point

A big thank you to all of those who have participated in the challenge this week. There were many different interpretations, naturally enough, but I was particularly looking for images which best attempted to utilise the characteristics of wide angle lenses as suggested by the three previous technical challenges. An honourable mention must go to:

PaulFS
Tiebreaker
Terrytog

... but (in no particular order) the oscars hearts go to:

davidc
mpp26
Majoayee
greg_lovett
flying

A couple of people are suggesting future challenge themes for Wide Angle Wednesday. Please keep doing that. I shall try to use them all eventually. The theme for next week (widwed05) will be "Looking Down".
