In the Woods

We had an amazing day out with Nana today at Anglesey Abbey near Cambridge.
I've been wanting to get there for ages and I'm so glad we finally got round to it.
There were backpacks at the entrance to fill with gadgets and art materials: binoculars, bug catchers, magnifying glasses, sketchbooks, wool (the purpose of which was became clear later!), activity packs, crayons and pencils.
It is the perfect place for the Little Misses who love nothing more than climbing trees, rolling down hills, crawling under - and through - bushes, collecting leaves, sticks, feathers, stones, fir cones and creepy-crawlies, building campfires (and rubbing two sticks together as hard as they could - thankfully to no avail!)
There were willow tunnels, a giant tree house, a pirate boat to climb in, logs to jump on, a fabulous giant xylophone hanging from the trees to play with sticks - complete with hundreds of beautiful wool threads tied on. It looked amazing!
The Little Misses loved it! So did Nana and I.
We got very creative and made a fabulous mobile with sticks, wool and twigs. It's currently hanging from our apple tree - definitely a Blip for another day.
They cartwheeled and rolled their way back to the entrance. Still not tired after five hours!
As we were leaving Miss E collected stickers she was missing from her 50 Things To Do Before You're 11 3/4 booklet. She's very proud to have reached forty one!!
It's going to get tougher from here on in. Anyone know how to build a raft?!!
We didn't even see a fraction of what there is to see - the house, the formal gardens, the working mill......
Always good to have a reason to go back!

There are more photos here. Tough choice today!
