Prague at Night

We had a full day today. Arvin and I went on our own to Prague in the morning. I wanted to find the Hlahol Building where the Whatcom Chorale sang with another choir on our tour in 1998. It turned out it was near the Fred and Ginger Dancing Building, a modern building that vaguely resembles two dancers, and that was a place we wanted to see too.

So off we went, with me navagating the bus and subways to get us near to both places. It worked and we found both of them. I was delighted. The Hlalhol was not open, but I knew it at once when I saw it.

We continued walking along the river, past the Charles Bridge and to another subway stop that took us home. We were gone about three hours.

When we got back to camp, we met with Ian and Jerien who had gone on a morning cycle. We had lunch together and then a short rest before we and Ian headed back into the city. Jerien fancied a quiet day so all was perfect.

First stop was the tram museum for a ride on Route 91, a long loop through the city on some beautifully restored trams built in 1930 and 1931. They were elegantly restored and we had a great time rattling through the city on the older one in the back. Occasionally people would hop aboard thinking we were a "real" tram. The conductor gave them two options - pay or exit at the next stop. Most exited but three Germans stayed with us for much of the ride.

After the ride, we stopped in a restaurant for a delicious dinner. I had a special asparagus dinner, risotto with shrimp. Arvin had gnocci and lamb stew. All our food was good and the beers helped wash it down.

When we finished dinner we took a couple of regular trams to a place where we could ride an elevated car up a hill to a large park. We were hoping for a night view but soon discovered too many trees, so we rode back down and walked to the bridge south of the Charles Bridge. That is where I took this panorama of the night lights. It was a beautiful balmy evening and we enjoyed our walk back to the next tram and the subway and bus home.

Seems I can add photos from my phone. Included are Tram 91 and the castle and cathedral at night. Also Arvin and Ian on the tram.
