Wombat Whirlwind Tour

Well we covered a lot of ground today and it felt a bit like we were on Walking Wombat's Whirlwind tour of the Blue Mountains.

Teejay (who CCN and I had met in Wanaka), FarmerGirl and FarmerBoy flew into Sydney this morning to see the Vivid Light Show.  Knowing they had a small window of opportunity they decided to catch a train and come up to the Blue Mountains for a quick tour.  And that's what it turned out to be.  Of course as luck would have it the trains were replaced by buses between Central and Penrith because of track work, but undeterred they soldiered on and arrived in the mountains at 12.20pm.

We worked it out that if they wanted to be back in Darling Harbour by 7.00pm to meet Jen (Newcastle DownUnder) for dinner I would have to have them back on a train by 4.15pm.

I have to tell you we had our skates on.  After lunch at the Conservation Hut in Wentworth Falls we then visited - Leura Cascades, the Three Sisters (both versions).  I have a secret location where I take my visitors and guess what, not a car or bus in sight!.  From there it was via the scenic route to the Hydro Majestic (just a slow drive-by), Govetts Leap and onwards to Hargraves Lookout on Shipley Plateau.  We just had enough time to race down to Wombat Hollow for a quick cuppa (CCN was at the ready) and then back into Blackheath to catch the 4.15pm train.  Oh, and allow time to buy train tickets - that can be a real pain I've discovered.  Not tourist friendly at all. Phew!!

Well we made it folks and it was an absolute pleasure to spend three hours flat with three such lovely kiwis.  It was only a "Taster", but I have a feeling they'll be back in a flash :-)
