The macaroni pie is dead...

Long live the macaroni pie!

Carb-hit-tastic. And in this case entirely gluten free (hence the slightly flaky pastry - the recipe is good, but you've got to be more careful than with normal stuff). The pie maker is a fab thing Mel got me for my birthday (she knows me so well...) that can make six individual pies, or the bits can separate to make different sizes and shapes, or hell, even one absolutely immense pie. One day...

But these were just a wee homage to the now departed Greggs macaroni pie (though with bacon and nutmeg and chives and spring onion in there they are perhaps a little more 'posh').

So so busy. So busy. So tired. Being able to even have a lunch hour tomorrow would be nice. That's the purpose of at least one of the pies...

Listened to a lovely show on Patrick Leigh Fermor on R4 on iPlayer as I made them - he wrote about the Mani, on the Peloponnese in Greece, which I read while there. John Humphreys was back to "Paddy's" home near Kardimili, and it was so nice to hear the affection that the local people still have for him. Remarkable character, fought with the Cretan resistance against the nazis, even capturing the local commander. Bung his name into wikipedia.
