Over the Garden Wall

I haven't had many meetings on campus lately, so when I did have one on this day, I seized the opportunity to take a brief walk around the nearby duck pond and the alumni center gardens.

The ducklings of springtime have grown up now, and some of them have dispersed to other areas. Several were hanging out on and along the duck pond, some swimming, others napping.

I spotted four turtles sunning themselves on the rocks, with the largest one of the crowd claiming the big rock in the center of the duck pond. A photo of that one's smiling turtle face is included in the extra photos area of this page, lower right.

The alumni center gardens are spectacular this time of year, full of color and shapes, and they are well worth visiting. I took a peek over the garden wall and saw a profusion of flowers of all colors blooming there. Such a lovely sight to see on a sunny summer afternoon.

The song to accompany this image is a tune by the original Carter Family called Over the Garden Wall. It's old-timey music, the kind my dad used to listen to on the family stereo in the old days. For those not familiar with one of country music's royal families, Mother Maybelle of the Carter Family was the mother of June Carter, who later became the wife of Johnny Cash.
