The Now Show

I had a busy day packing, moving things about the house, watching tennis and doing laundry.
Also going back and forth to school. Miss E went in without her piano book so I took it in for her before lunch. Apparently the last time she forgot it the teacher gave her a lecture about being responsible for remembering her own things. That may be a fair point but the house is so chaotic at the moment she'd never have found it!
Mr K came home from work early and we rushed to get the train to London for the recording of The Now Show.
I always feel giddy going to London with Mr K on the train!!
It was a beautiful day and we walked from Euston to Broadcasting House. We took a slightly circuitous route thanks to Mr K's questionable navigational skills but did discover lots of secret passages and cobbled alleys!
We went through the revolving doors into Broadcasting House - taking our lives into our hands as they were all spinning like mad turbines!! - and there we were. At the BBC!
I am a BBC girl through and through so I was quite overwhelmed to actually be there!
We got our tickets validated and then headed off to get some dinner. Handily enough there was a Byron Burger practically next door so we went there. I had a healthy quinoa, avocado and grilled aubergine salad. Delicious! Mr K stuffed his face with a giant burger, fries and an Oreo milkshake. Also delicious!!
Then we went back, through security and into the BBC cafe which overlooks the newsroom. When you watch the news you can see all those desks and people in the background. We were looking down on that had the odd experience of seeing the newsreader below us doing a live broadcast whilst at the same time watching it on the many screens around the place.
I love seeing things behind the scenes.
There was also a mock up of the Queen Vic so obviously I was obliged to have my photo taken in front of it!
I resisted the full sized Tardis and the cardboard cutouts of Tess and Claudia from Strictly!!
But I did buy a fridge magnet!
At 8pm we went into the Radio Theatre - a beautiful art deco room in the old part of Broadcasting House. I had a huge sense of the history of the theatre which has been in use since 1932.
We were only a few rows back so had fabulous view of Steve Punt, Hugh Dennis, Alexi Sayle and the others. The show was brilliant. Very funny and very clever. It'll be broadcast tomorrow at 6.30pm on Radio 4 and I can't wait to hear how they edit over an hour's worth of material into thirty minutes.
It was a bit like seeing Strictly being recorded. As well as loving the actual show I loved seeing all the behind-the-scenes stuff - the microphones, the re-takes at the end, the way that they just paused and started again whenever they made a mistake, the interactions between them on the stage. Just brilliant!
When it was over we walked back to Euston, ran for an earlier train than we had planned to get and got home in less than forty five minutes. So easy!!
The one shadow on the evening was hitting a badger on the way back into the village. It ran straight across the road right in front of us. Only the second time in the my life I've seen a badger and we kill it. Awful.
