Rockpooling

The skies were grey this morning, the sea uninviting. After a late start we got the wifi rebooted in the caravan, and made contact with our friends from near Stroud, who have a chalet at Crackington Haven, up the coast from here. We drove there under heavy skies, via Wadebridge, where we stopped at the shops. At A and L's chalet, we shared lunch and a long, long chat.

They've had the chalet for about twenty years, and have built it up from something of a basic box without electricity or running water to a very charming second home complete with a tranquil garden. it is set in a quiet valley, but is a long walk or short cycle ride from the beach and cafes/shops. Our visit was well timed, as they were expecting an influx of relatives the following day.

After we left, we went down to the beach at Crackington Haven. The waves were hurling themselves upon the rocks, a great distance out. In the rock pools formed by low tide, a man and his child hunted for sea treasures. I used my in-camera's so-called magic filter number 12, to highlight the glimmer of sun in the sky mid-shot.

Then the rain began, and we drove back to the cosy caravan, where I learned how to make chips in the halogen oven, and cooked up a lovely salad of steamed cauliflower with balsamic dressing and crispy bacon.

More rain expected tomorrow...
