Marjorie's ramblings

Around my village 2 (an occasional series)

This is our wonderful community run village shop. Today the Olympic Torch was carried on the first leg of its journey from Alnwick by Dick who is the Chairman of the organising committee. He works very hard to make the shop successful, along with the band of volunteers who do all the jobs in the business.

Olympic torch fever seems to have gripped the area. I've just watched on TV as Bear Gyrlls took the torch on a zip wire from the top of the Tyne Bridge to HMS Calliope on the south bank of the Tyne. A 14 year old boy who lost both legs and one arm to meningitis was the last torch bearer today and proudly lit the cauldron on the stage back on the Newcastle side. He is a paralympic hopeful for 2016.

It's good to see so many people enjoying themselves (despite the rain).
