A view from Jeanneb

Morning walk with horses!

Fabulous blue skies this morning and a walk around Hewenden/Denholme to make the most of it.

This view looks over East  Manywells farm to Catstones Moor and the Guide above Cullingworth. In the foreground is Hewenden Reservoir and the viaduct, now part of the the Great North Trail, which was a view I grew up with and yes I do remember seeing trains crossing over it!

Always a view to delight from either side of the reservoir but today our biggest surprise was the number of horses we cam across on our route.

Leaving Denholme to return to the other side of the reservoir we came to a filed of horses ( not beloved by all our walkers)  which seemed to be entirely mares with their foals. 24 were counted. In the next field, heading into the woods, were even more young horses ( see extra ).
The final couple of fields dropping down to East Manywells farm were also populated by large numbers of similar ponies. Non of these had been here on previous walks. We wondered if they were rescued as they were all of the 'gypsy' type and were not at all perturbed by our presence.

We passed through the farm and then crossed the viaduct back to Station Road where the original Wilsden Station used to be located.

A lovely start to the weekend and a Bank Holiday weekend in  England and Wales so I hope you all have a good time wherever you are and don't spend too much time stuck in traffic!
