A Day Worth Recording

On the placing of a hole

Given that there is currently a large hole in the upstairs ceiling it seemed an apposite opportunity to invest a little extra and get an additional loft hatch in place.  The existing loft hatch is on the landing, but is both small and opens into an impressively complex set of roof beams: thus, only useful for the particularly lithe.

Snag turns out to be that because the ceiling height is slightly ridiculous (as opposed to downstairs where it's completely ridiculous) the all-in-one hatch-and-ladder combo's are large, because of having to accommodate a longer ladder.

Larger than the available space between wall and a major roof beam.

Today we have been mostly umming and ahhing whether to have a big hatch-with-convenient-ladder rather central to the bedroom ceiling, or a hole-without-a-ladder-yet to one side.
