The Old Meeting House

Dear Diary,

I attended a lovely concert at the Old Meeting House, the same place I was married in 17 years ago.  It is a unique example of an early 19th century meeting house and one of the few left in Maine in original condition.  Our historical society hosts an open house here each Labor Day weekend so people can see this amazing building.

It has no electricity but has many windows that gives the space a light and airy feeling.  It's raised pulpit and sheep pen pews are wonderful.  People bought their pews and some local people still have their "deeds".  The design was meant to cut down on drafts.

The talented musician, Katherine Rhoda entertained us with her haunting voice and many historical instruments.  The old meeting house has amazing acoustics.  It was well attended and we hope to host a free concert every year.  It is a great use of this precious building.
