Marjorie's ramblings

In memory 2

Today I was in Newcastle for a memorial service for Charles Lovedale. We qualified together in 1975. Charles was born and brought up in Jesmond, attended Newcastle University and, apart from a brief sojourn in Corbridge, he lived here all his life. He was a GP in the same practice for over 30 years.

The church hall at St George's was packed to overflowing for the humanist service when family and friends had the opportunity to speak about Charles. Irayna, his wife, who also qualified with us, gave such a beautiful, heart felt and moving (but very real) account of their 41 years together. All four sons spoke then other family members and friends.

I took this photo outside the church hall whilst waiting for the start. It was sunny and warm with a lazy feel to the afternoon. The collie's owner threw sticks for collection, but this did not break the atmosphere.

Lovely to see so many of our year there, but very sad. I expect this will be the first of many such occasions.

PS mum and I had a quick trip into Hexham this morning and I bought a new (much smaller) dress for this afternoon.
