A Day Worth Recording

Ladies in White

Travelling back from Newcastle today we stopped off at Brodsworth Hall for a break and a leg stretch.  Typically, the whole drive, apart from this bit of Yorkshire, was bright and sunny; and this bit foggy.

The hall and gardens are contemporary with the Dell House so part of us was looking out for ideas, especially for the garden.  It's a bit flat so quite a few of the garden features wouldn't work for us - not that we can afford (or indeed, want) a stone temple.

The topiary was interesting. We're not into teapot topiary, but the arrangement of semi-natural abstract shapes had a certain appeal.

I suspect we may never quite match their croquet lawn for size or uniformity, but the area that used to be the Dell House croquet lawn is now somewhat larger and containing of fewer weed laurels and buddleia.
