Cademuir, Peebles

It being Wednesday and His Lordship without his usual walking companion, I nobly stepped up to the mark with the proviso that I lead the walk. That way I would be sure that we would stick to a path and not end up scrambling through unknown territory.

We decided again on Peebles which is easy to get to and affords a variety of walks avoiding people.
It was a stunning autumn morning as we left Edinburgh, but we ran into a wall of mist at Eddleston, only to watch it being burnt off by the sun as we munched scones ( cranberry and walnut, if you are interested) and drank our coffee overlooking the Tweed in our favourite Peebles café.

We had a lovely walk along woodland tracks in the Cademuir forest. Our path was way marked by thousands of spiders' webs glistening in the sun and underfoot a soft carpet of fallen leaves. The bracken was transformed from green through ochre to brown and the trees were resplendent in their autumnal golds and russets.

It was the kind of day that Scotland does so well in October , given half a chance. There was no wind and in the sun it was T -shirt walking weather.
It was hard to come home to the city with its traffic and crowds.
