YOU PUT YOUR RIGHT FOOT IN - AND PINKTOBER 18

You know I am always talking about thinking “outside the box” - today, I am “inside the box`’ literally - well my right foot is - and this is probably the nearest you will get to a “selfie” of the pink robe and pink slippers - so very PINK!

Here are a few facts about breast cancer:

1.  It is the most common cancer in women worldwide and the UK.
2.  This week in the UK about 750 women will be diagnosed with this disease, and it will be thew same next week and the next and the next - about 41,000 new cases are diagnosed each year.
3.  For women, the lifetime risk of being diagnosed is about 1 in 9.
4.  It is believed that Britain now has the highest breast cancer mortality rate in the world.

So what about men?
1.  Cancer of the breast in men is rarer - accounting for less than 1% of all cancers in men as well as less than 1% of all breast cancers.
2.  About 350 men develop breast cancer in the UK every year.
3.  The average age for men developing it is 63 years of age.
4.  Most men do not check their breasts.

THE GOOD NEWS is that earlier detection, increased understanding of the biology of breast cancer and better treatments mean that survival rates are improving.  More than eight out of ten people survive breast cancer beyond five years and more than three quarters of people survive it beyond ten years.
