Getting airborne

Sitting out on the deck this evening with a glass of wine, and a platter of cheeses and crackers, I saw a Takapu (Australasian Gannet)heading for the water. I had my camera, but was so taken by surprise, my photo of the dive to the water was blurred.

I went to the point, and there was able to see the takapu surface, pause briefly and then run on the water until it got lift off. I stayed and got a series of photos of it soaring upwards, and in ever increasing circles, unfortunately not very much closer to me.

There was a second takapu although it seemed to not dive; I saw this one head again for the water (pohutukawa were in the way). It didn't go as deep, nor stay on the surface for as long, as it did the first time.
