U-Bahn München: 65/100 Neuperlach Zentrum

Munich Underground: 65/100 Neuperlach Zentrum

Neuperlach Zentrum underground station is two stops north of the last station of my series, Neuperlach Süd. The station was opened in October 1980 together with the southern branch of the U5 line (then U8). The design is similiar to all 1980 U5 station, the columns at this station aren't tiled, though, but metal-plated. The light concept is noticeably different, too, as there is no other station that has such rectangular light frames around the pillars. The platform is also much wider than usual. Neuperlach Zentrum station is served by U5 trains to Neuperlach Süd (south) and Laimer Platz (north-west). During peak hours the U7 line to Westfriedhof (north) has its southern terminus here.

The Neuperlach neighbourhood - a borough that was built from scratch in the late 1960s and now houses approx. 65,000 people - is widely considered Munich's skid row.
