WW2 History Lesson!

Today has not been relaxing at all, although we did get a lie in.

At 12 Jon & I went out car hunting. Stressful business, as I worry about spending money, but suffice to say it was successful and hopefully I pick it up BEFORE work Wednesday! Just got insurance and finance to sort out.

When we got home, mum & dad had arrived for a few days as they are having new carpets fitted in the week. Mollie & Henry were in with them, enjoying tea, cake and a history lesson. Here you can see dad describing in detail to Mollie & Henry, memories of the day a bomb dropped in the next road to them, in 1940. The map is of wartime Barnet and the location of every bomb that dropped is shown, with detail of the numbers killed. It was a Christmas present from mum which he has just had framed in a new place in Sheringham. Dad has an amazing memory, and has so many stories about the war. He told of the day a bomb dropped between 2 Anderson shelters, blowing the poor occupants to pieces. His dad later found a ladies arm in the road, and on his way to school dad remembers seeing dogs in the street being shooed away, and a man who was clearing up, putting sawdust over the flesh parts and scooping them in to a bucket. I suppose those memories stick. They were bombed out several times. It is an interesting map and I will make time to sit down with dad to write down those stories very soon.

Mollie made a lovely selection of curries for tea, including sag poneer with proper poneer cheese I bought in Tesco on impulse. It was very nice!

Now we are playing Mollie's Xmas board game 'The Logo Board Game' and drinking wine. A good end to our Saturday :-)
