Marjorie's ramblings

Our dear friend, Meda

My first significant job today was to collect the printed programmes from the printer. Hooray! I have not found an error yet, but dare not look too closely. (They look great.)

Then it was off to Sunderland Eye Infirmary, where Mum was to have an eye test. As usual, we were impressed by the efficiency and the happy atmosphere in the hospital.

Before returning home, we visited, Meda, a very dear friend of ours. Meda and Douglass were together for 65 years, having married young, but he died in December. Douglass suffered from dementia which cruelly stripped him of the person he was. Meda looked after him at home for a very long time, but he had to go into a care home towards the end.

We were not able to go to the funeral beause of Mum's hand operation, so today was a chance to hear about D's last days and the things he and Meda were able to say to each other at the end. It was very moving. Meda is grief stricken but is characteristically putting on the bravest face she can.

We were so please to be able to spend time with her.

Back home to find that the first day of Walking Festival bookings have gone well with some walks over half full already.

I may sleep better tonight!
