Warship Week

Well you never know what you're going to find... in the handover to our new Parish Clerk I've been helping move some paperwork into storage. Before it goes, however, it's good to just glance through the piles and piles of boxes before they go. This popped up!

During the second world war, civil communities would save up and adopt a warship during "Warship Week". It appears Charfield saved quite well, and afforded HMS Severn, which as far as I can see was a River class submarine! Here's a picture.

The paperless office has much to offer. We have to keep a lot of paper and we have no space for it unless it goes into commercial storage - at which point it's also very hard to look at! I've scanned a lot of old parchment and other interesting bits.

Things like this historic item are interesting rather than crucial to the running of a parish council, but they're fun to have. I wonder if anyone will actually look at the physical certificate in the next century or so...
